What an amazing evening we had on Saturday. It was the long overdue reunion of my niece Jennifer with most of our family. I personally haven’t seen Jenny since she was seven, some 24 years ago. She grew up in Calgary so geography has been a major obstacle. It was lovely to see her again and the hug she gave me was wonderful. I was also thrilled to meet Caitlin, her daughter and our first great niece. Caitie is five years old and she’s beautiful. At that age, she doesn’t spend too much time talking: she’s more of an action lady so she busied herself but at one point while she was banging away on the piano, she asked me to sit beside her and play a song. I was honoured so we plinked together for a few minutes. It was actually fascinating to watch her at the piano. While notes were being struck in no semblance of order, she was very careful how she played the keys. Ok, I know I’m as biased as can be, but she seemed to be ‘thinking’ about how she’s playing them. I think we may have a pianist in the family! Jenny and Caitie will hopefully make a visit here to Guelph before they head home.
