It looks like Mother Nature finally woke up this week and took notice of the fact that we really haven’t had much of a winter. Last year at this time we had seen about 145cm of snow. Before this week our total count in Guelph was around 23cm.
It’s weird though how the snow affects me differently at different times of the year. Snow in December doesn’t bother me much. It makes it feel more like Christmas. January snow always ticks me off because I know that every time I shovel it there will be plenty more to follow. Same with early February. Late February snow like the stuff we have been experiencing this week isn’t terrible because I just keep telling myself “it’s only a few more weeks and it will all be gone”.
The signs of spring are out there. It’s now fully light around 6:45am. And darkness doesn’t come until 6:30 or so p.m. That combined with the fact that we have had the odd day when the temp went above the freezing mark. Just the other day I saw a bright red cardinal singing his little heart out. He’s probably been in the area all winter but much like the rest of us, when the snow flies he just keeps his head down and tries to stay warm.
Daylight saving time starts in a few weeks and soon the robins will return. It’s all these little things that just stirs the optimist in me. You hear that old man winter? It’s time to leave us for a while. Spring…bring it on. I am ready!
