You know every once in a while you have to leave what you love behind for a while in order to appreciate it. Every day we complain about how brutal driving in Guelph is with all the construction delays. Trust me, it’s nothing compared to Toronto.
I was in the “Big Smoke” this past week to see the Eagles at Rogers Centre. Driving downtown in Toronto at 5:00 in the afternoon is only slightly less enjoyable than a double root canal.
As we cruised past several “full” signs at area parking lots I was beginning to feel desperate. That’s when my wife spotted the lot about two blocks from the Rogers Centre that had several open spaces. I was in line to turn in when I noticed the sign that normally read $8 for all day parking. It now read “Event parking-$50”. I believe that translates to: There is something big going on so we are going to screw you over big time! $50 to park my car? Rigggggghhhht. I quickly got out of that line. I ended up paying $7.50 at a municipal lot a few blocks away.
I didn’t get burned by the greedy owners of the lot. Plenty of others did. I wonder how many will return home to tell their friends what a great city Toronto is to visit? I wonder why tourism is down in Toronto?
