According to the Brits teddys are not just for kids.

A recent British survey, I'm guessing done by a teddy bear manufacturer, suggests 35% of adults still sleep with a teddy. Does a pillow pet count?  Mine's a moose.  How about you, moose or teddy?  There's always a survey of some sort.  This isn't the silliest one I've seen.  I'll get back to you on that one.

Forget that home cooking, let's hit the road again!

I don't know why the Guelph Storm can't win on home ice, but the record speaks for itself, only 8 wins in 27 games.  It gets worse, only 2 of those have come since mid December and none in the month of February.  By contrast they have a respectable road record of 15-12-0-1.  This past weekend was a prime example of the results, an impressive 9-1 win in Plymouth on Saturday, followed by an awful performance in a 6-1 home ice loss against Kitchener on Monday.  Unless they figure out a way to win at home fast a playoff possibility will fade away.

Sleep texting???

Posted By: Larry Mellott · 2/13/2012 9:23:00 AM

A bizarre little story this morning, it seems a young lady in Quad City Illinois has been texting in her sleep.  Why am I not surprised when you encounter so many people staring down mindlessly at some little electronic devise.  Many of them appear to be sleep walking, so why not sleep texting.  Her dad say he has caught his daughter, Kandi Gay, texting, while at the same time sound asleep.  Here's the amazing thing, apparently the messages are coherent. Yet again modern technology run amuck.

What do events like the Super Bowl and the Academy Awards show share in common?

I confess I'm not particularly a big football fan; hockey and baseball are my favourite sports.  Having said that I'll still watch the Super Bowl game.  I think its the same sort of idea as watching the Oscars, even though you probably haven't seen many/most of those nominated movies.  They're events that create a party atmoshphere; in fact are excuses for throwing a party.  Last night's football game proved to be pretty entertaining, including Madonna's halftime show.  Now we'll see if Billy Crystal can breathe some life back into the Oscars on Feb.26.  It'll be the 9th time he's hosted and he usually makes it a good show even if you haven't seen all those "shows" he's talking about.

Gordie Howe will always be the greatest of them all as far I'm concerned.

Posted By: Larry Mellott · 2/3/2012 5:00:00 AM

Everybdoy should have the opportunity to meet their idol.  I did, 17 years ago at Guelph Memorial Gardens.  Gordie and Colleen Howe joined me during an intermission of a Storm hockey broadcast.  It didn't surprise me in the least to find out that he was a humble, friendly and humourous man, as well as a hockey legend.  Gordie's wife Colleen passed away from a form of dementia a few years ago; now Gordie, at age 83, is dealing with a similiar ailment.  It's progressing slowly and according to his son Murray, who is a doctor, its a mild form of memory loss and not a form of dementia-that's good news.  My best wishes to the greatest player who ever laced on a pair of skates.
