Dave's Blog

The lowest of the low.

I think we all have our hot buttons. Topics and/or events that we feel compelled to comment on. For the most part I have learned (the hard way) that I do have the ability to keep my mouth shut...most of the time. There are exceptions; any crime that involves the victimization of children. I find it very difficult to remain silent on that subject.  It's hard to believe, but there is actually something even worse. There are scum and leaches out there that prey upon the families of very sick or terminally ill children.

Read this story and let me know if you feel the same seething rage in your belly. This is Canada, in this country we are innocent until proven guilty. If a court of law finds this man and his accomplices guilty I hope they have a "special" place in both prison and hell for him.

Robbie Burns Day

Posted By: Dave Hannah · 1/24/2012 11:15:00 AM

Tomorrow is Robbie Burns day honoring Scotland’s national hero on what would have been his 215th birthday. It’s a day of whisky, song and of course, haggis. With a strong Scottish population in the Guelph/Fergus area I’m sure many people have tried this…ummm….delicacy. Unfortunately, (???) I can’t count myself amongst those who have had the pleasure (??????). I may fancy a wee dram of whisky occasionally but, to be quite honest, I’m not sure I want to eat the internal organs (almost all of them) of a sheep all neatly bundled up inside the poor critters stomach and tied off neatly with a string.  It does look cool though. It’s also hard not to be amused by a recipe that commands you to “prick the stomach before putting it in the oven to prevent it from exploding”. Mmmmm….exploded haggis all over your kitchen! That would be a fun one ...

Best Spam ever….

I have received plenty of spam in my lifetime. Normally I just hit “delete” and move on. Every once in while I glance at the email and laugh at the poor English skills of the spammer. Is that even how you spell Nigeria? You really have to wonder; Do people still fall for these things? I guess somebody must or they wouldn’t keep sending them right? Anyway, this is a copy of an email I received this morning:

Hello.
I found your e-mail address on medical site (transplant and liver problems).
My name is Alex, I am from Ukraine, I am 31 years old man, I do not drink alcohol and do not smoke cigarettes, my blood is O+ and I have a good health. If you need liver transplant I am ready to give part of my liver, but I want to receive a big compensation ...

Happy New Year...a bit late.

Posted By: Dave Hannah · 1/6/2012 11:32:00 AM

Wow, is it really 2012? First I must apologize for taking so long to say happy New Year. It’s been one of “THOSE” weeks. Let’s just say 2012 is off to a busy start. That’s ok. Keeps me out of trouble.

Have you taken down your Christmas decorations yet? My wife and I finally spent an evening this week completing that task. It’s never as fun as putting them up. We both have very different methods of packing them away. I am of the “just chuck it in the box” mentality. My wife likes everything carefully stashed away, wrapped and labeled so we will know exactly where it is next year. I am smart enough to realize that her method makes more sense. I just don’t have to like it. Perhaps this weekend I will get the outside lights taken down…or not.

Whatever you chose to do this weekend do ...

I ate Christmas!

Posted By: Dave Hannah · 12/28/2011 10:55:00 AM

Well we made it! Another Christmas is behind us. Or in my case, another Christmas has moved to my behind! I mentioned on air today that for kids Christmas is all about the toys. For adults like us, let’s face it; it’s all about the food! Turkey, stuffing, carrots, cranberries, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, lemon pie ... I should stop now. That would be bad enough but some of us (myself included) did it more than once! Whew. Festive eating. It’s a true competitive sport.

I hope Santa brought you everything you asked for. I was spoiled rotten. I got a new computer, an e-reader/tablet computer, a PVR…oh yeah, and some socks.  Catch the theme here? It was an electronics Christmas at my house this year. I truly felt blessed when I looked around on Christmas day. Not because of all those fancy gifts. I know, it sounds ...
