A 63-year-old woman from Moncton, New Brunswick was taken to Guelph General Hospital for assessment after being found unharmed in a shelter on Elizabeth Street yesterday.
Police say Mary Lemma went missing Saturday night aftter getting off a Via Rail Train in Brantford. Lemma was on her way to meet family in London. They became concerned because she suffers from Schizophrenia, among other medical conditions, and requires medication.
Police say Lemma would continue on to London once released from hospital.
Today is the August Civic Holiday, or “John Galt Day” in Guelph.
A few service reductions and closures today, although many retail outlets including, Stone Road Mall, Old Quebec Street, and most LCBO and beer stores are open.
Banks are closed as are government offices and most of their services, including post offices and mail delivery.
All city offices and administration are taking the day off, but Guelph Transit is operating on a Sunday, Holiday Schedule.
Other city closures today include the Civic Museum, McCrae House, and all branches of the public library.
Garbage pick-up moves ahead one day, but some city recreational options are available, including most wading pools, splash pads, and water features.

A man is dead and woman critically injured after a collision in Elgin County involving a car and two motorcycles. The OPP say a car crossed the centre line on Highway 3 yesterday afternoon hitting one motorcycle head on and side swiping a second bike. A 47-year old Kitchener man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Kitchener woman riding the second bike was rushed to hospital in London with life threatening injuries. The driver of the car and a passenger suffered only minor injuries. No names have been released yet.
Toronto police are seeking witnesses to a fatal accident at the Caribbean Carnival. They say 18-year-old Rueshad Grant was standing beside a parade float Saturday night when he was run over by the vehicle. It was earlier reported that Grant had been riding on the float when he fell under its wheels. Officials are examining a video showing the immediate aftermath of the accident, with spectators yelling for the float to stop as it slowly creeps ahead. Grant was rushed to hospital, but died soon after.
The OPP are investigating a fatal boating accident in Georgian Bay north of Barrie. A 70-year-old woman was killed when the boat she was in smashed into a small island Saturday night. Five other passengers, including the boat’s operator, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
